Lesson of the day.  Deer were originally called darlings by the early settlers, due to their non threatening nature.  But, as Americans tend to be lazy, they shortened the name to deer since it was easier to say and spell.  By any name, though, it's always a treat when you see 'em.

This weekend is the107th annual Norge Ski Jump in Fox River Grove, a town about 10 minutes up the road.  If you don't know what the ski jump is, try to remember back to the opening part of Wide World of Sports where they showed the one guy on a ski jump crashing down to earth and plowing through anything in his way.  It's quite a sight seeing these guys and gals going down this huge "chute" and

One of my great searches is to find me an owl out in the wild to grab a shot of.  No such luck so far.  The one time I saw one he was perched on a fence post alongside a highway that, of course, is usually not busy, but that day was a steady stream of traffic. This is a shot of  a railyard in Indiana on the shore of Lake Michigan.  I was able to setup at a high vantage point which is always nice when trying to get a wideangle shot. The main thing that drew me to this is the fact that even though there were no moving cars or trains at this time, the area seemed to be kind of hyperactive.  There was so much to visualize out of these static transports it

I'm sure all of you have heard of the penguin movie, Happy Feet.  In our house, we have our version, Happy Ears.  My kids each got nice warm hats from their grandmother in Wisconsin as early Christmas gifts.  Tonights shot is my son coming out of school and is being posted for two reasons.  1. A lot of my photos are taken on the fly.  I try to be like the guys I read about i.e, they scout a location, check it out in morning light, check it out at sunset, get to know every nuance of the location, think about what settings to put my camera on, setup a tripod, hook up a remote so as to not have any vibration show up from pushing the shutter button, etc. And that's what I did with this

We've been blessed with some mornings of heavy fog around here this September.  Here's a shot of a big sun rising over the field with heavy, heavy fog.  The sunlight burning through the fog is incredibly diffused makes what normally would be strong hard glaring light into a very soft, creamy light.

Most of you know I had my camera gear stolen several months ago.  I have since replaced most everything lost, but the one thing that's been missing is my Sigma 10-20mm wideangle lens.  It was one of my favorite lenses since it catches the shot very wide and can give a different perspective to the shot.  And besides that I though it had great color representation and was pretty sharp.  I recovered

Some of the most dramatic photos I see when looking at photo sites are those of lightning. Most of the pics are just lucky shots.  But some, some are really cool and they have a direct correlation with the photographer trying to catch the perfect shot of lightning.  I've ventured out into the storm before and caught some pretty neat shots.  Its not super difficult.  Just chase the storm(at night)

I finally went through the last bunch of pics from my trip to Chicago last week.  As mentioned in a previous post, one of the highlights of the trip was Millennium Park. Continuing with my series from my trip to Chicago, tonight's post is a shot of two boys playing in the water from the twin towers constantly spilling over onto the kids.  Two things caught my eye with this shot:  the two were contently watching others having fun in the water and the colors that were reflecting off the ground water.  I thought it was a pretty cool shot.

Been a long time in between posts.  I apologize, but it really wasn't my fault.  A storm whipped through here Monday morning and really did a number on the area.  Over 800,000 homes without power.  Nada. Yeah, yeah, I know its been awhile since I've been here.  I hope to get back in the swing of things shortly.  The number one thing that would help this is decent weather.  Its correct that a true photographer braves all weather to get the shot.  But, I think that mainly pertains to a "paid" photographer.  So I am, therefore, exempt.  Time has also been in short supply due to various things going
